The Philippines is written off as a tourist destination by many people who have a bad impression of the place for various reasons ranging from terrorism to sex tourism.
It has a huge reputation amongst international divers and some spectacular beach resorts.
Boracay is one of my favourites.
About 40 minutes from Manila by air to Caticlan, then a short boat trip to the island, it’s a string of hotels along a magnificent tropical beach.
Boating, diving and cheap seafood compete with vegging out on a palm lined beach as attractions.
Some pics.

Hmmm… only one pic?
Try again.
OK, it seems to be too large, need to fiddle with my shrinkpic settings. Not tonight though.

Fixed my shrinkpic program, it’s a great free download for people who like to send photos by email or post them on websites. It’s now reducing 1000kb photo files to 15-50kb.
There’s a full range of hotels on Boracay and we stayed in an excellent beach front place that i seem to recall was about $40 a night.

Beautiful!  Boracay is consistently voted in the top 10 beaches in the world.  I havent been there personally, but heard nothing but great things about the place.  It is starting to get a lot of travel press. Get there now I believe before it is ‘discovered’.

I found it a very “family friendly” place. There is little traffic allowed in the beach front area and the beach was immaculate. The sea was quite shallow up to the beach and most hotels had beach front pools anyway.

I have spent years in search of these types of beaches.  Love the little huts on the water.
