It’s highly unlikely that anyone would book a trip to somewhere with rioting going on or where they were still cleaning up after a natural disaster but if you’re locked in and the worst happens I’d consider switching destinations in the same country.
Street fighting in Bangkok? Fly straight through to Chiang Mai.
Floods in Saigon/HCMC? Head for Hanoi.
Sometimes domestic flights can be very cheap, particularly if booked on line.
